CODE OF CONDUCT
By using the Chat Room, you are agreeing to follow the Code of Conduct as laid out below:
No personal battles. Take it outside, please, or have a moderator
arrange "virtual grass before breakfast" (a mediated debate,
the modern equivalent of a duel).
Leave politics and religion outside please. Such subjects are often
very emotional with some people and can lead you to a slippery slope
that nobody really wants to slide down.
No derogatory slurs or comments on someone's race, religion, political
orientation and/or sexuality will be allowed. However, if you divulge
anything of a sensitive nature about yourself, be advised that that
tidbit of information will then be considered "fair game"
and it will be your own darn fault.
Try to hold cursing, cussing or use of foul language to a minimum.
Members here are from diverse cultures and use various native languages
which make dictating acceptable language extremely difficult. If
you find something offensive to the point that you cannot tolerate
it, please contact a moderator. This is not your momma's house,
grade school or church, so don't expect us to be angels and nobody
is subject to having their mouths washed out with soap because of
salty language. We are not the speech police. One special feature of the chat is the Ignore option. So, if you find that you just don't want to listen to someone brag or rag or cry in their beer, you can choose to ignore them (you can't ignore the mods, however).
Please remember that bragging is rude and can become quite boring.
Just because you may have met Sean or have an autograph you don't
have to rub it in. We do, however, love to hear all about these
things (pics are even better). You will still be called a "jammy
cow", but that is par for the course around here. (Jammy Cow
= a most fortunate wench)
Anyone blatantly trying to advertise or promote websites, articles
or whatever for profit will be banned immediately. Go and promote
your stuff at eBay: we are not remotely interested!
Anyone coming in here with the sole purpose of flaming or chastising
or intentionally stirring up shit will be immediately banned.
If you come in here and get pushy and try to hog the discussion,
don't be surprised if you are asked to leave. No one person is the
center of the universe no matter what they may believe.
This is not the Shrine of Saint Sean and everyone is entitled to
their opinions. If you don't agree with someone who has a gripe
about him, or anything else for that matter, be courteous in your
discussion so that it remains a discussion. Almost everything is
possible here as long as you're not hurting or offending anyone
on purpose!
If you don't understand an abbreviation, Yorkshire/Brit slang,
or an acronym, don't hesitate to ask. OR, if English is your second
language and you need something explained, just ASK.
If you don't like bitchiness, don't come in here. We who use this
chat room choose to do so because we like being bitchy just as much
in writing as we do in real life. For some of us it is the only
place we can really get away with it. Not that we are all particularly
bitchy, but you never know when someone has had a bad day or their
hormones are all out of whack.
Sable, Sylvene, the Mods, and common sense decide what goes and
what doesn't. As such, frank and open discussion of things of a
sexual nature are perfectly acceptable subjects. So if sex talk
offends you, I suggest you quietly excuse yourself from the chat
room or go to a personal chat should any discussion veer off in
that direction. We are all adults here and this is the 21st Century,
so prudishness will probably be laughed at.
And the most important rule of all: What is said in chat, stays
in chat. That means that anyone who hears something salacious, gossipy
or catty about anyone or anything in chat is not free to run off
to any other boards or go to email or instant messenger, or Skype
or PMs or any other type of communication media to repeat what has
been said. If anyone is found guilty of doing such, they will be
permanently banned from chat and their SBO membership will be subject
to restrictions unless they come up with a damned good reason why
they did it.
